- Indian Tsunami Relief Camps
In February, 2005 we traveled to Tamil Nadu, India with a group of Japanese
college students. As part of our fieldwork, we visited several camps
of tsunami victims. Their grief, and the students' determination to
provide help are recorded in this video.
- Tokyo Demonstrations, March 2, 2003
Seventy-percent (according to some polls, 80%) of Japanese citizens are opposed to the imminent war in
Iraq. Peace demonstrations, while frequent, have been small.
Often, the demonstrators assemble in a small park in Shibuya where we
live. The demonstration filmed here was sponsored by the Trade Unions
and was as much about labor issues as peace. According to the
organizers, about 7,000 people marched. A week or so earlier, a couple
of hundred students gathered in the same park for an anti-war
demonstration. They didn't want to be filmed, so I've included only a
single picture of them in the video.
